Tenets & Values of the
Collective
These are not suggestions. They are binding commitments that every member makes to the Collective, to their community, and to themselves. They are designed to drive real economic behavior—not decorate a website.
Doing Well Doing Good®
At the heart of The $50 Million Black Business Collective is a registered principle that defines who we are:
“You can build a thriving business and build a thriving community at the same time. Profit fueled by purpose is the most powerful force in economics.
— Doing Well Doing Good®
This is not a slogan. It is the operating system of the Collective. Every business decision, partnership, and investment is filtered through this lens: does it grow the business and grow the community? If the answer isn’t both, it doesn’t belong here.
The 8 Tenets of the Collective
These tenets are binding commitments—not aspirational values. Each one drives specific, measurable economic behavior within the Collective.
Doing Well Doing Good®
The Foundational Principle
Every member of this Collective operates from a single, non-negotiable principle: you can build wealth and build community at the same time. Profit is not the enemy of purpose—it is the engine. We pursue revenue with intention, reinvest in our communities with discipline, and hold ourselves accountable to both the balance sheet and the broader mission.
Member Commitments
- I will pursue profit with purpose, ensuring my business creates value beyond the bottom line.
- I will reinvest in the communities I serve—through jobs, mentorship, procurement, and capital.
- I will measure success not only by revenue, but by the economic ripple my business creates.
Revenue Is the Standard
We Measure What Matters
This is not a networking club. This is a business growth collective. Every conversation, every meeting, every partnership is evaluated against a single question: does this move a member closer to $50 million? We track contracts won, capital raised, partnerships formed, and milestones hit. Growth is not optional—it is the expectation.
Member Commitments
- I will set and pursue clear revenue milestones with urgency and discipline.
- I will report progress honestly and hold myself accountable to measurable outcomes.
- I will invest in the operational capacity my business needs to scale, not just survive.
Collaboration Over Competition
We Win Together or Not at All
The Collective exists because no single company can capture the full scope of a major contract or market opportunity alone. We build joint ventures, form teaming agreements, and share pipelines because the math is simple: coordinated businesses win bigger contracts. A member’s success is the Collective’s success.
Member Commitments
- I will proactively share opportunities that could benefit another member.
- I will pursue teaming arrangements and subcontracting partnerships within the Collective first.
- I will never undercut or undermine a fellow member’s pursuit of a shared opportunity.
Integrity Without Exception
Our Reputation Is Collective
Every member carries the reputation of the entire Collective. One bad actor damages the brand for everyone. We operate with radical professionalism—in how we engage partners, deliver on contracts, and represent ourselves publicly. If we say we’ll do it, we do it. If we can’t, we say so early and clearly.
Member Commitments
- I will conduct all business with honesty, transparency, and ethical discipline.
- I will deliver on every commitment I make—to clients, partners, and fellow members.
- I will protect the Collective’s reputation as fiercely as I protect my own.
Accountability Is the Culture
No Passengers. Only Participants.
Membership is active. We do not carry passive members. Every member commits to showing up, following through, and reporting back. Our structured meetings are designed to surface what’s working, what’s not, and what’s next. We hold each other to the same standard we hold ourselves: relentless forward motion.
Member Commitments
- I will attend scheduled meetings, contribute to discussions, and follow through on action items.
- I will share updates on my business milestones, challenges, and needs with transparency.
- I will call in fellow members who are falling behind—and allow them to do the same for me.
Economic Power Is Community Power
Every Dollar Has a Destination
When Black businesses grow, Black communities grow. Every contract won, every job created, every vendor relationship formed within this Collective has a multiplier effect. We are deliberate about where our dollars go. We procure from each other. We hire from our communities. We invest where it matters.
Member Commitments
- I will prioritize procuring goods and services from Collective members and Black-owned businesses.
- I will use my growth to create jobs and economic opportunity within the communities I serve.
- I will actively contribute to closing the racial wealth gap through my business practices.
Scale Requires Investment
Capacity Is Not Optional
Winning major contracts and entering new markets requires infrastructure—systems, certifications, talent, and capital. The Collective exists to help members access these resources, but each member must invest in their own operational capacity. We don’t just want members who qualify—we want members who prepare.
Member Commitments
- I will invest in the certifications, technology, and talent my business needs to compete at scale.
- I will pursue capital with discipline—not out of desperation, but as a strategic growth tool.
- I will keep my business financially healthy and operationally ready for the opportunities ahead.
Knowledge Flows Freely
What You Know Helps Everyone Grow
Intelligence is the currency of this Collective. Market insights, procurement timelines, capital pathways, regulatory changes—everything that could help a member win should be shared. We don’t hoard knowledge. We distribute it, because a better-informed Collective is a more powerful one.
Member Commitments
- I will share relevant market intelligence, opportunity leads, and strategic insights with the Collective.
- I will contribute to knowledge-sharing sessions and mentor members who are earlier in their journey.
- I will ask for help when I need it and offer help when I can—without keeping score.
Our Core Values
The principles that underpin every tenet, partnership, and decision within the Collective.
Purpose-Driven Profit
Every dollar earned should serve a mission larger than any single balance sheet. We build wealth because wealthy communities build futures.
Collective Intelligence
The smartest person in the room is the room. We leverage the combined knowledge, experience, and networks of every member.
Excellence as Standard
We don’t compete to participate—we compete to lead. Every product, service, and deliverable represents the best of what Black business can be.
Legacy Thinking
We build businesses that outlast us. Generational wealth requires generational vision—hiring, training, and preparing the next generation to lead.
Radical Accountability
Goals without tracking are just hopes. We set targets, measure progress, and hold each other to the standards we claim to live by.
Economic Sovereignty
Self-determination starts with economics. We control our supply chains, own our assets, and circulate our dollars within our community before they leave.
This Is the Standard
Every member of The $50 Million Black Business Collective agrees to these tenets as a condition of membership. They are not aspirational. They are operational.
If you’re ready to be held to the highest standard—and to hold others to it—this is your Collective. If you’re looking for a passive membership, this isn’t it.
“Doing Well Doing Good® is not what we say. It’s what we build.”
